This is very temporary as I wait for the new back box to come in. Some pulls towards the end.
Great engine. Bad mod. Do not do, even for fun.

FWIW I liked how my M112 sounded with the muffler removed. Not the best but not a VQ, lol.
*not my video

That sounds extremely nice, especially at high revs. It’ll be cool to hear it with the new muffler too.

that sounds pretty darn yummy... so that is through the cats but no muffler?

I actually think the M112 is a better engine; maybe a bit less interesting, but a lot more stout than the majority of M272s because of that.
I actually looked into a Crossfire years ago and always thought the same. Very VQ-esque with a clear hint of German.

Stock cats, stock resonators. Legitimately just chopped off the single muffler and clamped in a turn-down to try to minimize hot air blasting at the undercarriage. If done properly and all the way out of the back, it likely would drone a lot less; currently it exits a good foot-plus underneath the rear bumper. I show it maybe 45 seconds into the video, though I am a bit ashamed of the hackery.

You can’t go wrong with this generation of Mercedes NA V6 in term of sound.

Sounds nice on my phone. Will be interesting to hear it with the new muffler installed.

My wife and I got passed by a G35 with a custom exhaust going WOT. She asked why it sounded so bad and if there was something wrong with it. In reality, he had likely spent a pretty penny on his exhaust from what I could tell. Shame they sound so awful.
I really like the M112 sound. Though I enjoy most all OHC 90 degree V6's

You haven’t lived until you’ve commuted in an e38 on open headers. I still have no idea how I didn't get the thing impounded.

You’re right. The 112 is a better engine. And I would argue it’s more interesting because it can be had with a supercharger!
Did you know that AMG never built their own version of a 272 or 273? They didn't feel it was stout enough or good enough to handle what they would've wanted from it. So they came out with the 156. But they did make multiple variants of the 112 and 113.
